The River Community Church

Thoughts From the Leadership

From Tyler Mollenkamp

I want to specifically encourage the families that call this church home. The Student Ministry that I have lead for the last 7 weeks has grown numerically and spiritually. The excitement I see on every one of the kid's faces shows how this ministry exists for a reason. This is not a futile effort. This is a worthwhile effort that is pleasing to God. I feel privileged to come alongside you parents and provide additional teaching for their spiritual maturity.

They have been recieving biblical teaching alongside Pastor Joshua's lessons. Recently, we have been going through the various fruits of the Spirit. The best part? They GET IT. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfullness, gentleness, and self-control are not simply good worldly attributes. They are a reflection of who God is. This last week I used a mirror to represent this fact. If God is love, we ought to aspire to that same love. If God is peace, we should want to have peace as well. In short, the study through Galatians has opened their minds to who God actually is, rather than what they hear from the world.

I encourage you all to communicate these truths to them "when you sit in your house, when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up." (Deuteronomy 6:7) It should be a consistent process, not simply a Sunday morning activity. My primary purpose as the River's new Youth Director is to help you all do this. This is also the purpose of the Discussion Questions. These questions act as a springboard into biblical discussions with your kids; awkward or not. The fact is, I am not a parent quite yet, and I don't know everything there is to know. However, I am here for you all. I am always free to provide guidance and encouragement as you raise your kids.

Please understand that I am just a phone call away. I am praying for you all through this difficult task. Though difficult at times, it is through the power of Christ that makes it all possible.

Gather & Grow...River Community Life

New Monthly Newsletter

The River e-Newsletter is changing! We are going to a once a month posting and print at the beginning of the month. Each month an elder will post and we will have a month and a half of activities and news posted as well in the Gather, Grow, Go format we are currently using. That means you can get all your news in one shot for the month! We hope to keep it more interesting and current so you will enjoy reading it. If you have something you would like included in the newsletter, please send it to the office by the 20th of the month to give us time to include it. We hope you like this new idea and we'll try not to send too many additional emails between.

PMS Sewing Day
Saturday, May 2 from 1-5pm

Women, let's get more sewing done on our Days for Girls project!  Remember--you do not need to be a woman who sews--you could be a woman who can iron, turn items inside-out, place snaps (made easier with our new snap-setter).  Just come, we'll plug you in!

Congratulations to Tyler Mollenkamp

Go...Serving in Jesus' Name

May Missions Focus: Gideons International

Founded in 1899, Gideons International is dedicated to reaching the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We do this through the distribution of God's Word and personal witnessing. Today 300,000 members of Gideons International serve in their local communities.  Gideon Bibles are currently being printed in 99 languages and distributed in 200 countries.  The first Gideon Bible was placed in a hotel in Montana in 1908.  Since that time, two billion scriptures have been distributed worldwide.  This has resulted in a countless number of lost people dedicating their lives to Jesus Christ after reading Gideon Bibles.  Some have gone on to become pastors or serve in other Christian ministries.  Churches play a vital role in the Gideon ministry.  Approximately half of the funds we use to print and transport Gideon Bibles comes from offerings we collect in churches.   Gideons International is a missionary branch of the local church, and we are grateful for your partnership in our ministry. Pick up a card to give someone and the donation slip along with it in the River Oasis (former library).
