Children's Church is Growing and Learning!

June 11, 2015 - 10:42 AM

Hello River Family!

I want to specifically encourage the families that call this church home. The Student Ministry that I have lead for the last 7 weeks has grown numerically and spiritually. The excitement I see on every one of the kid's faces shows how this ministry exists for a reason. This is not a futile effort. This is a worthwhile effort that is pleasing to God. I feel privileged to come alongside you parents and provide additional teaching for their spiritual maturity.

They have been recieving biblical teaching alongside Pastor Joshua's lessons. Recently, we have been going through the various fruits of the Spirit. The best part? They GET IT. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfullness, gentleness, and self-control are not simply good worldly attributes. They are a reflection of who God is. This last week I used a mirror to represent this fact. If God is love, we ought to aspire to that same love. If God is peace, we should want to have peace as well. In short, the study through Galatians has opened their minds to who God actually is, rather than what they hear from the world.

I encourage you all to communicate these truths to them "when you sit in your house, when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up." (Deuteronomy 6:7) It should be a consistent process, not simply a Sunday morning activity. My primary purpose as the River's new Youth Director is to help you all do this. This is also the purpose of the Discussion Questions. These questions act as a springboard into biblical discussions with your kids; awkward or not. The fact is, I am not a parent quite yet, and I don't know everything there is to know. However, I am here for you all. I am always free to provide guidance and encouragement as you raise your kids.

Please understand that I am just a phone call away. I am praying for you all through this difficult task. Though difficult at times, it is through the power of Christ that makes it all possible.

Have an amazing week everyone!

Kids Church Podcast for Families

November 30, 2014 - 10:12 AM

This year Kid's Church is using Elements Kids worship curriculum. Each month the children will be focusing on a different element of the Christian faith during our time together. We will learn our memory verse, watch a brief video, and then break into small groups and do an activity that will reinforce the element discussed during the lesson. We are excited for your children! We hope parents take the time each week to listen to the 3 minute podcast posted here as well as on the Children's Ministry Page. The podcast will give the parents more info on each lesson and encourage them on ways to reinforce the element in their family's lives.

The Crossing for 4-6th Graders

April 1, 2009 - 11:27 AM

In an effort to strengthen our ministry to the families in our neighborhood The River Community Church will be bringing back the "Thursday after school kids program for Lucas Elementary"renamed, "The Crossing."  This program will be for 4-6 grade students at Lucas Elementary. The program will run on Thursday afternoons from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm. It will consist of a snack time, activities (crafts, games, cooking), music and a bible lesson. That's a lot of stuff to fit in an hour and a half! We know that through this after school program God will reach these elementary students and grow them as disciples of the gospel.

If you would like more information about this program or to volunteer please contact Pastor Steve or the church office.

Winter 2009 Update

January 21, 2009 - 2:20 PM

Thank you to all the volunteers that have helped the ministry in the past year. New schedules are now available for Spring 2009.

A New Look

You might notice that the classrooms have been changed around a bit. The nursery and walker rooms now adjoin each other to allow for the sharing of resources/volunteers. Artwork has been ordered to liven up the walls a bit as well!

Nursery Care

Nursery care is available during BOTH the worship and education hours via "infant" and "walker" rooms, with plenty of fun items to keep your little one happy.

Combined Children's Church 9:00 am: 3year-olds through 6th grade

Children are invited to join their parent(s)/guardians in the service for announcements and the worship music in the sanctuary at the beginning of the service. They are to be dismissed to the west wing during the last song. Children's worship during the adult service is led by any of the following pairs of volunteers. The group will meet in the preschool room until the space requirement becomes an issue:

Jen/Tyler Kruse      Mark/Julie Jessop      Barb Cetta/Diane Poch  Arnie/Amy Hernandez

What to expect?     Bible lessons presented and applied with the use of activities such as crafts, songs, and word rhymes. Prayer and offering times are explored as well with any extra time used for free play!

Education Hour 10:15 - 11:00 am: Preschool (3-5 year olds)

What to expect?    Song, crafts, and friendship games are used to help illustrate biblical teaching. Participation in prayer and story times are also encouraged as time permits. Classes for K-3rd and 4th - 6th grades will be available as soon as teachers are recruited!
